Let's Put the EASe in EASTER

It’s Easter! What a magical and…exhausting and messy holiday….. ALWAYS filled with sugar rushes and dye all over the table and clothes… When you have young kids, the creative aspect is less exciting… In fact, if you are like me, I kind of dread it… I LOVE decorating eggs but I hate letting my kids do it… There I said it! SO here are some tips for Easter this year, for those of you like me, who are looking to avoid the MESS and keep the MAGIC!

Use WATERCOLOR instead of dye. For younger kids who tend to spill and throw things, dye is a heart attack waiting to happen. It doesn’t stick as well as dye, but let your nuggets use Water Colors! Create a washable egg decorating experience that won’t make you wince and flinch every bump along the way. Enjoy the creativity of your babies and feel FREE to let it reign! You can also enjoy a few other relatively mess free fun with play dough egg creations in and around plastic eggs!

I also LOVE the hidden art technique with a white crayon… If you haven’t seen this it’s pretty cool! You draw on an un-dyed hardboiled egg with a white crayon or pencil (crayon works best with the waxy application). After drawing on the egg, you dip it and soak it in the dye of choice… The egg will absorb the color every where but on the crayon drawings…

This can be fun Easter Hidden Love messages to your kids or hubby, or any drawing. This works best for older kids and adults, but could be fun to let your toddlers draw all over them, then have an older sibling or mom and dad dye them for them. This has become one of my favorite ways to design eggs… That and stickers with the kiddos. My babes love putting stickers on a clean egg or completely dry egg. Give it a try!

Easter Baskets… let’s not and say we did…. PLEASE! The kids will cry? Dang it! I actually have really grown to love the pre made basket idea… No mess in putting them together and it actually ends up being way cheaper most of the time… The little things add up fast! Baskets, grass, candy, basket stuffers, fake eggs with treats, maybe a stuffed bunny or duck…

Man the total keeps climbing… oh, you have more than one child? Well… It’s a small fortune but at least the kids will be happy, even though none of this has anything to do with the real purpose of Easter… Okay Mama… Let’s ease up on the stress and time we DON'T have enough of and get the remade baskets. Really… Most of the stuff is going to be forgotten or left on the floor for you to clean up 20 times a day….. We have enough to worry about… make it easier on yourself. TRUST ME!

Also…. um… save yourself the sugar rush and put goldfish, fruit snacks, nuts and other healthy treats in the eggs instead of candy… WHY I didn’t think about this earlier in life is beyond me… We started doing this 5 years into being parents….

SO MUCH BETTER. And our kids LOVE the snacks…. They don’t even realize it’s stuff we have in the pantry already… Some years we have added snacks we have been out of for a while to make it more exciting. If you don’t do this yet, YOU HAVE TO TRY IT! I’d love to hear how it went!

Easter is about candy, baskets, egg hunts and the Easter Bunny…. Right? Um wrong! Easter in our house is a reminder of the Resurrection of The Savior, Jesus Christ. I realize not everyone celebrates Easter in a religious fashion, and that’s okay!

But there are some great ways to bring meaning to Easter. A few symbols you can share with your littles are new animal births that generally happen in Spring, and if you are religious this can be related to the REBIRTH of the Savior through his Resurrection. EGGS are also a great symbol… The egg of course houses the new life of a baby bird, but I have also heard people relate the opening of the plastic egg to the opening of the Saviors tomb. The Grass in easter baskets symbolizes the spring, in which we celebrate this time of year.

Easter doesn’t have to be a stressful sugar filled mess. Use some of these hacks and ease up your EASTER! Happy Easter Mama’s....Never forget....You are worth it! Together we will Rise from the Laundry Pile!
